When Does the Asphalt Sealcoating Season End?

When Does The Asphalt Sealcoating Season End?Asphalt is the logical choice for all types of Dallas pavements where cost, aesthetics, speed, and durability matter. To have the longest life, best appearance, and fewest major repairs, your pavement should receive periodic applications of asphalt sealcoating. However, it is important to note that contractors cannot apply sealcoating in all weather conditions.

What Is the Asphalt Sealcoating Season in Dallas?

If you are familiar with the Dallas area, you are probably aware that the weather can change on a dime over the course of a single day. It is also true that the weather can be extremely different from one year to the next. Therefore, asphalt maintenance contractors can only rely on historical data to tie the calendar to suitable conditions for sealcoating in Dallas TX. Typically, the sealcoating season begins in late April, and it ends between the middle of October and early November. This is not to imply that asphalt maintenance contractors can only apply sealcoats during the season. If you need to sealcoat your pavement, you should not assume that your contractor will be unable to help. Go ahead and ask. However, you might find the following information helpful to understand why your contractor might suggest postponing the work.

What Weather Conditions Do Contractors Need When Applying Sealcoating?

Sealcoating is very sensitive to the weather conditions before, during, and after the application. Here are the conditions that contractors evaluate for sealcoating Dallas TX pavements.

1. Is there rain in the forecast? If rain falls during or within 24 hours of the application, it can ruin the job. In addition, the pavement must be completely dry prior to starting the application. Therefore, sealcoating contractors sometimes have to postpone jobs if a heavy rain falls the afternoon or night before.
2. What is the temperature? The companies that manufacture products for sealcoating asphalt state that the ideal temperature is 70 degrees Fahrenheit. However, they also state that sealcoating contractors can successfully apply their products at any temperature above 50 degrees. This applies to both the temperature of the pavement and the temperature of the air. Neither temperature should fall much below 50 degrees for at least the first 24 hours of the sealcoat’s life. Furthermore, the temperature may need to be higher if the humidity levels and wind conditions are marginal.
3. What will the relative humidity be on the day of application? Sealcoats cure by evaporating the water they contain. When humidity levels are high, it will take longer for the water to evaporate. The temperature also has an impact on evaporation, so the water will evaporate faster as temperatures increase. If the temperature is marginal, a high humidity level may cause contractors to delay sealcoating parking lots or other large pavements.
4. How windy will it be? Wind moves the saturated air away, allowing the water remaining in the sealcoat to escape faster. On any day, parking lot maintenance contractors prefer a steady breeze of around 5 mph when sealcoating asphalt pavements. A day featuring marginal temperatures, high humidity levels, and extremely low wind speeds is typically unsuitable for applying sealcoating.
